The sinus is a chamber around the nose area that is filled with
air. If this area becomes infected with a virus, then we begin to
experience the telltale signs of sinusitis. We start getting a runny
nose, maybe a blockage in one or both nostrils, a low grade fever and a
headache manifesting in the forehead and just below our eyes. The search
for a sinusitis remedy has been ongoing for decades now and
pharmaceutical companies have invested heavily in a cure, but we do not
need to look far for a remedy. There are effective and reliable natural
remedies that are available in our own homes, some of which are
mentioned here -
* Cayenne pepper - Numerous studies have been conducted that show how effective the spices, like cayenne pepper or horseradish, are for opening up and draining the sinuses. If taken regularly, then these spices can help improve blood circulation, boost the immune system and reduce swellings and other inflammations in the body. For an easy sinus remedy, simply mix a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in one cup of hot water and drink 2-3 cups everyday to get rid of congestion.
* Garlic - This wonder bulb contains allicin, a compound that is also a very potent remedy against sinusitis. Eating garlic is the easiest and fastest way to get this into your system. However, if you are one of those people who cannot stand the smell or taste of garlic, then you can use it in juice form. Crush one garlic bulb and mix it with water. It should be a 1:2, garlic to water ratio. Mix 1 glass garlic juice and 2 glasses of water to lessen the strong garlic flavor and aroma. Apply 2-3 drops of this juice on your nostrils two times a day. Use a dropper for easy application. Do this every day or until your sinus infection clears up.
* Onions - One of the healthiest and most effective cures for sinusitis is the onion. It is renowned for its antibacterial and anti fungal properties and has been used as a home remedy for centuries. The cure is prepared and applied like garlic juice. Start by crushing a handful of onions and apply 2-3 drops of the juice via a dropper. Do this 2-3 times a day until cured. Do not forget to clean your nostrils before applying the onion juice.
* Peppermint - This herb is one of the most well-known sinusitis cures available today. Mix a small amount of peppermint and a cup of salt in one cup hot water. Breathe in the steam for instant relief.
* Thyme - This is one of oldest remedies that have been used by our grandparents and great-grandparents. Thyme has always been used to treat respiratory ailments, because its potent antiseptic qualities are soothing to the nostrils, throat and lungs. Thyme is best used dried. Mix 1-2 teaspoons of the dried herb to one cup hot water. Drink as many glasses of this Thyme tea, until your sinus clears up.
You can use any sinus home remedy out of the ones mentioned above and it can prove immensely helpful in providing relief from sinus infection. While natural remedies have always been the go to cure for a lot of people, however, it is best to consult your doctor to get an appropriate sinus treatment if the condition persists for a long time.
