Making Home Life Easier for Allergy Sufferers

It is not uncommon for people to be born with an allergy of some sort these days. Although different in severity, allergies inevitably affect the sufferer's life by influencing what they can and can't eat or what areas and times of year they need to look out for.
Some of the allergies that can affect people the most at home are dust mite and animal allergies. To make home life easier for these allergy sufferers you share a home with, make an effort to help them feel healthy.
General Tips
Dust and animal hair have a tendency to collect on surfaces really fast so it's vital to wipe them and hoover on a regular basis. Use either wet cloths or specialist dust wipes to access even the tiniest of nooks and crannies.
Try to avoid acquiring a large amount of ornaments, candles and other souvenir-style items that sit statically on shelves collecting dust. The presence of these can really aggrevate an allergy.
The Kitchen
The kitchen is a room with lots of shelves, cupboards and other storage space resulting in lots of surfaces. For the best results, counter tops should be wiped down after each use so as not to allow any layers of dust to form.
Every once in a while, give the cupboards and shelves a thorough deep clean too. While you're at it, rinse any dishes that haven't been used for a while as these attract dust.
Ensure you don't leave food out that could tempt your pets to jump on the counter tops, shedding hair along the way.
The Living Room
A haven for the dust mite, the living room should be thoroughly vacuum cleaned at least once a month, and not just the carpet. Dust settles on sofas and chairs so these should be taken care of as well.
Interior accessories like cushions and throws should be washed regularly to avoid a build up of allergens, particularly if there are pets in the house who use these to sleep on.
Dry clean your curtains as often as you can afford to, as these are yet another type of soft furnishing on which dust settles.
The Bedroom
Similarly to the living room, make sure you wash any bedroom soft furnishings on a regular basis, and hoover the floors, paying particular attention to the areas under and around the bed.
Buy hypo-allergenic bedding such as duck down duvets to ensure the allergy sufferer gets a good night's sleep.
Try not to store books and keep electronics such as televisions and computers in the bedroom as these attract a large amount of dust. Have you seen how clogged up computer fans can get?
